If characters appear on screen several seconds after you type them, or the mouse feels heavily delayed, and yet the network indicator in the menu bar shows a good connection, the cause is usually not your internet. It is most often your computer struggling to decode the video stream Apporto uses to draw the desktop.
The quick fix
In your Apporto session, turn off the Video Compression setting. The session will reconnect on its own, and in most cases typing and mouse response improve immediately.
If the lag comes back in a later session, simply turn Video Compression off again.
Why this happens
With Video Compression on, Apporto streams your cloud desktop as video, and your computer normally decodes that video using its graphics hardware. On computers where graphics acceleration is missing or not working (for example, when a graphics driver is not installed), the decoding falls back to the main processor, which cannot keep up. Frames pile up, and everything you type or click appears seconds late. This is also why reconnecting or relaunching does not help: the bottleneck is on the computer itself.
What you give up
With Video Compression off, videos playing inside the cloud desktop may look less smooth, and the session uses a bit more bandwidth. Writing, office applications, and coding are unaffected. If your computer cannot decode video in hardware, leaving it off is the right setting, not a compromise.
If it keeps happening
Contact your campus IT team and mention that your computer may be missing a working graphics driver. They can confirm and fix it in a few minutes using this guide. If the issue persists after that, please submit a support request and tell us whether turning off Video Compression helped.
